I needed a bath mat so I crocheted one. I did some research on the best type of cotton to use for a bathmat - not all cotton is the same. I needed a cotton with good absorbency and will dry quickly as well as provide strength and longevity. I chose Lily Sugar and Cream aran cotton yarn.
The end result was a lovely soft and richly textured mat made using 100% cotton and the finished product is surprisingly lightweight. It is suitable as a bath mat, rug or throw. The pattern is made by alternating rows of staggered bobbles with double crochet (single crochet US) and finished off with a beautiful full chain fringe or you could omit the fringe if you prefer.
The rug size can be made larger or smaller by increasing or decreasing the number of stitches and increasing or decreasing the number of pattern repeats. You can add a fringe if you want, the instructions are in the pattern.
The fibre used is 100% cotton and is used double by crocheting with 2 balls at the same time. The pattern uses approximately 14 x 56.7g (2oz) balls. It is written in UK and US crochet terms.
Skill level: you will need to be able to crochet, create chains, create double (single US) and bobbles
